Studying in the UAE: recognised universities and pathways
In short: UAE higher education is regulated by the Ministry of Education's Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) for federal and private institutions inside the country, and by free-zone authorities for branch campuses. Recognition varies by regulator, so 'accredited in the UAE' can mean different things.
Three types of provider
First, federal institutions such as UAE University, Zayed University and the Higher Colleges of Technology. Second, private universities licensed by the CAA. Third, international branch campuses operating in free zones such as Dubai International Academic City or Abu Dhabi's KHDA authority, where the awarding body is the parent institution abroad.
Recognition abroad
A degree from a CAA-accredited UAE university is recognised across the GCC and by many international employers. Degrees from branch campuses inherit the recognition of the parent institution. If you plan to use the degree outside the UAE, verify whether the awarding body and the specific programme are recognised in your target country.
Pathways for working professionals
The UAE market has strong provision for professional master's, executive MBAs and DBAs delivered in evenings and weekends. Some UK, French, Australian and Indian universities run their doctoral programmes into the UAE through partnerships.
